Program for adults (Senior Members)

The Adult Program in the Civil Air Patrol is involved with the Cadet Program Management. Many adult members were cadets in the beginning of their Civil Air Patrol career. Although the term "Senior Member" may imply somebody of older age, the age to be a Senior Member is 18 years the day that the person signs up. The adult members provide the supervision, the leadership, the experience and the abilities for a much more smoother Cadet Program. Just as the Cadet Program has its activities and encampments, the Adult Program (Senior Member Program) offers a great variety of activities that they can participate. The adult members may also attend all of his/her unit activities, some of their corresponding wing activities and most of the National Cadet Special Activities.

The Senior Members are the main element for a proper Cadet Program Management. The Senior Members may also be trained in being Ground Team Leaders, to participate in Search and Rescue missions. Aerial searches also apply as Search and Rescue, many pilots and aviation enthusiasts are interested in the Senior Member Program. The Adult Program is just as beneficial as the Cadet Program. One can gain his/her first-aid and CPR certifications, radio operating license, all this and much more by being an adult member of the Civil Air Patrol. The Adult Program is an exciting and educational program that may open many doors to you and also, like the Cadet Program, make you a better leader.

Adult members can learn about flight and air navigation, command and management, public affairs, first aid, emergency services, communications, logistics and supply, personnel, administration, cadet programs, and other specialties. Click here for more information on each of the Specialty Tracks

The training program for senior members is a five-level, structured training and education program designed to prepare seniors to accomplish Civil Air Patrol's missions by filling leadership positions and performing specific functions within each unit. Here you may have a brief description of the Senior Member Professional Development Program.

Senior members earn and wear Air Force officer style rank as they progress through the training programs and build up the required 'time in grade'. The main significance of the rank is to indicate a member's capabilities and experience in CAP. Authority in the CAP comes from appointment to a position and has very little to do with the rank one holds.
